Making Double

There's something about making earrings that drive me nuts and after making a bracelet in my studio the other day, I figured out why. With earrings, you make one and then you have to make another one exactly like it. Usually I give my jewelry names. I have a set of  three different styles of bracelet  named Victoria, Darcy, and Edith.
The original ladies
When it came to making earrings for the first time in my studio I was so excited! Though, when I was done I couldn't come up with a name for any of them. It's like giving twins the same name and I just can't do that. I'm sure i'll figure something out. In the meantime I'm going to incorporate the burned fabric into some earrings. Fire has a personality all of it's own and this way each earring will be similar but not exactly the same.

Above is the new Darcy (with a little change). I decided not to have embroidery around each circle as that was too distracting and I really wanted the gradient from burning the fabric to really stand out.

Busy Work

Wow. So, ever since I bought myself that flex shaft, I've been busy in the studio working on jewelry for the past month. I had to put the Clurichaun on hold because I want to re-make the torso. Also wanted to not walk around the house covered in bits of wood shavings. At least for a while. Here's the progress on the little fellow for now:

After making a few bracelets in the studio, I had some ideas for earrings. These spawned from one of the works in my Alice Elaine series:
Not the greatest photo...sorry. But I really enjoyed working with metals, fabrics, and beads. Eventually, this is what I came up with in the studio:

Needless to say it's been a busy couple weeks troubleshooting and experimenting with different fabrics and adhesives, but I think I got it worked out. I would really love to work more with animal parts but they can be tricky to come across...not to mention restrictions on certain species with the DNR. Gosh I just love those bird skulls though!
Yes! Another piece from my Alice Elaine series!
I wish this ring could fit me better...I would wear it all the time.
